Men and Women's Basketball win conference opener on the road
Last night the Penn State DuBois Men and Women's Basketball team collected win's in their first conference games of the year.
Women's Game: On the road at New Kensington, the Lady Lions turned in a solid performance to earn a victory that should provide a boost of confidence as they progress through the season. In a very lopsided game, DuBois was to much for New Kensington to handle. DuBois found them self off to a hot start in the first half of the game leading New Ken by a score of 38-21 heading into the half. Heading into the second half their run did not stop as they held New Ken to a 16 point second half. The lady lions had shared the ball well, having 4 players in double digit scoring, Natalie Bowser lead the team in points and rebounds with 19 pts and 16 reb.
Men's Game: Penn State DuBois came into the matchup looking to snap a two-game skid and delivered with energy on both ends of the floor. The Lions leaned on balanced scoring, with multiple players reaching double figures, and a defensive effort that limited New Kensington's second-half surge. DuBois opened the game with a double-digit lead midway through the first half with New Ken closing it to within 1 at halftime. The back and fourth second half was taken advantage of by DuBois as the team forced turnovers that converted into transition points. DuBois held off New Kensington's late push with steady execution in the final, that would allow Dubois to take the 76-74 win. Malachi Schaefer led the team in scoring with 18 pts and going 4-6 from the three point line, while Cole Love, Ashton Fortson, and Jordin Sommers all had double digit points.
Both Teams will be back in action as they travel to Penn State Schuylkill on Nov. 21 in another conference matchup.
