Penn State DuBois Lions Upset in Five Over Penn State Beaver Lions in PSUAC Playoff Action
In a thrilling playoff encounter last night, the Penn State DuBois women's volleyball team clinched a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Penn State Beaver, advancing in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) postseason and giving the Lions plenty to celebrate. The two teams battled through five sets in a tense, evenly-matched affair.
In the past, DuBois has struggled when coming back after being down two sets. With their season on the line, the match pivoted in the third and fourth sets when DuBois began to find their rhythm and press Beaver more aggressively. After falling behind, the Lions locked in defensively with strong defesive performances from Tessa Rethi, Navaeh Spaeth, Savannah Ross, and Emily Silvis who each had double digit digs, and improved their serve-receive and attack efficiency to stop the momentum of Beaver's strong start. That shift was critical for DuBois.
In the final set, the pressure was high—and DuBois rose to the occasion, executing under duress and closing out the match 19-17 securing their first playoff win in 4 years. DuBois will be traveling to Penn State Shenango on Thursday in hopes to continue their playoff run.
